Here we take a look at some of the fastest speeding tickets issued across the country.

California
The Golden State has the highest rates of speeding tickets in the nation and California Highway Patrol is known for issuing massive speeding fines. In April 2020, an officer clocked a driver going 139 mph, more than twice the posted speed limit, on a highway in Contra Costa County. In a Twitter post, the CHP called the driver “straight up irresponsible” and urged Californian motorists to slow down.
Florida
In June 2018, 28-years old Deon Hendricks from Clearwater was arrested for driving 140 mph in a 55 mph zone on Highway 19. Fortunately, it was 3 am on a Sunday morning and there were few other cars on the highway when the incident occurred.
Georgia
A late-night car chase through Roswell and Sandy Springs in November 2017 ended when the McLaren 720S driver—who topped out at 155 mph on a public highway—abruptly stopped the car after the brakes started smoking. The driver was arrested not only for speeding and reckless driving, but also for driving under the influence, failure to maintain a lane, and driving with an expired registration.
Indiana
In April 2017, Chicagoan named Christopher Garza was pulled over for driving 158 mph on the Indiana Toll Road while showing a friend how fast his new 2016 Dodge Challenger Hellcat could go. He was arrested and taken to Lake County Jail in Tavares, while his car was towed.
Kansas
A Kansas driver was issued a $873 speeding fine in October 2020, when the Highway Patrol clocked his car going 133 mph, more than twice the legal highway limit. A photo of the ticket was posted on the patrol’s Facebook page.
Maine
In 2016, a Maine State Police officer stopped a Dodge Neon going 146 mph in a 70 mph zone on Interstate 95 close to Pittsfield. The 18-year-old driver was arrested and charged with criminal speeding and failure to provide proof of insurance and inspection.
Michigan
A 2016 Dodge was caught by a stationary Michigan State Police patrol doing 180 mph on Interstate 75 in Monroe County in April 2020. The driver apologized to the officer, but that didn’t help him get out of a hefty penalty for his 105 mph of additional speed.
Minnesota
Minnesota state troopers wrote more than a thousand citations for speeding over 100 mph in 2020, a 100% increase from the previous year. The fastest speeding ticket was issued to a driver going 153 mph in a 70 mph zone.
Missouri
Missouri motorists are stopped for traveling faster than 100 mph on highways on a daily basis. But in April 2020, a driver of a Dodge Charger was caught by the Missouri Highway Patrol speeding 143 mph on Highway 65 in Pettis County. He was driving 78 mph over the posted speed limit.
Nevada
The Nevada Highway Patrol issued one of the fastest speeding tickets in June 2019 to Henderson resident Aaron Snyder for driving 155 mph in a 65 mph zone. Astoundingly, Snyder managed to get his speeding ticket amended to a non-moving parking violation.
New Hampshire
In July 2019, Eric Joseph was caught reaching a speed of 142 mph on Interstate 95, well over the posted speed limit of 65 mph. Joseph told the state trooper that he was simply driving home. He was charged with reckless driving, which is not a criminal offense in New Hampshire but still entails a temporary license suspension.
North Carolina
Twenty-two year old William Jefferson was caught on camera while racing in his Dodge Challenger Hellcat in Wake County in 2018. Jefferson managed a staggering 198 mph in a 40 mph zone and was found guilty of street racing and reckless driving.
Oklahoma
Nineteen-year-old Hector Fraire led police on a 208 mph chase in November 2016, attempting to elude the police car by turning off headlights and brake lights. For this one, he was charged with reckless driving and felony eluding.
Oregon
One of the highest speeds in Oregon was recorded in June 1993 when a 1991 Acura driver was stopped on the Astoria Megler Bridge after reaching 159 mph, more than 100 mph over the posted speed limit.
Texas
The fastest speeding ticket in Texas history was given to Arthur Chirkinian for driving his Koenigsegg CCR 242 mph in a 75 mph zone during a Texas rally in 2003.
Utah
In April 2020, Millard County sheriff’s deputies—known for pulling over some of the fastest drivers in Utah—clocked a Porsche at 148 mph on Interstate 215 in Salt Lake County.
Vermont
Vermont State Police arrested a Connecticut speeder traveling 112 mph on Interstate 91 near Royalston in September 2015. Fun fact: the driver was heading to court for a speeding ticket.
Virginia
In June 2021, Virginia State Police shared a photo of a reckless driving ticket issued on Interstate 564 in Norfolk. The driver was going 131 mph in a 55 mph zone, more than twice the allowed speed limit.
