Important Things You Should ALWAYS Have in Your Car

Let App WinIt fight your ticket.

It’s always a good idea to be prepared for any and every situation. The best way to do that is to make sure you are equipped with every little thing you could possibly need.

Your car is perhaps the place you spend the most time. Use your car as a place to carry anything you might need at any time.

Check out these things that you should always have in your car to be prepared!

Documentation

Documentation is probably one of the most vital things that you should always have on you. These help you be prepared in case you are in an accident or perhaps get pulled over.

Here are the different types of documentation you should carry.

●   License, Insurance, and Registration

●   Owner’s Manual

Now, let’s quickly look at these.

License, Insurance, and Registration

Each of these items is required in order to legally drive your vehicle.

You are required to have a valid license to drive and you should carry it with you at all times. This also serves as identification.

Every vehicle on the road should be insured in some way. You should always carry your most current insurance cards and information in the vehicle. If you are in an accident or pulled over, you will need these.

Registration is the legal allowance to drive your vehicle on the road. You renew your registration as often as is required by your state and pay a fee to do so. Your tag will reflect current registration but you should also keep the documentation in your car.

All of these are documents you should keep to protect yourself but also for legal purposes and requirements.

Owner’s Manual

You never know when something may go wrong on the road.

What if you get a flat tire and can’t find the spare? Manufacturers place that spare in interesting places sometimes.

Of course, you could also have a warning light come on and need to be able to look up what it means. An owner’s manual can help with this.

An owner’s manual is your guide to all of the specifics about your vehicle just in case something were to go wrong on the road.

Now, you also might need your owner’s manual for repair and maintenance. That’s our next stop!

Repair and Maintenance Gear

While your car may warn you about some things before they happen, it doesn’t always tell you every little thing. You could have a blowout on the road with no warning and need to change a tire.

It’s a good idea to always be prepared for basic repair and maintenance needs with the following gear.

●   Tire jack, spare tire, and lug wrench

●   Jumper cables

●   Tire pressure gauge

Tire Jack, Spare Tire, and Lug Wrench

You never know when you may end up with a flat tire on the road. You could just be driving down the road and have a blowout.

You should always be sure you have the tools to change your tire when you have a flat. This includes a spare tire, a tire jack, and a lug wrench.

Most cars have these in them but you should make sure yours does and make sure the tire is good.

Jumper Cables

It’s interesting how a batter can fail you at any time. Most of the time you never see it coming until you try to start your car.

Or maybe you just walked out of the store and you notice that someone is having troubles starting their car in the lot.

Grab your jumper cables and jump start the vehicle in question. This can be helpful for your car or for you to help someone else who may be in need!

Tire Pressure Gauge

A tire pressure gauge is a must-have. If you have a flat tire or a low tire or simply suspect that your tire needs air, you can check the air with your gauge and then take action as needed.

Cleaning Supplies

You just never know if you might end up stranded or dealing with a spill or even illness in the car so it’s a good idea to keep cleaning supplies in your car as well.

We don’t need to give you the rundown on every single cleaning supply but here’s a list of the ones you should plan to have on hand.

●   Zipper lock bags

●   Reusable shopping bags

●   Paper towels

●   Tissues

●   Car trash can

●   Water bottles

●   Wipes of some sort

●   Mom’s Emergency Kit (check out the one from Angie at Echoes of Laughter)

Safety Gear

Once again, we want to reiterate that you simply never know what will happen on the road. There are several things that you should keep in your car for safety purposes, just in case.

First Aid Kit

A first aid kit should have the basics in it to care for emergent needs or injuries. You can purchase a pre-made kit or make your own. Here are some of the things you should have in your first aid kit.

●   Bandages

●   Absorbent dressings (such as gauze or a diaper)

●   Antibiotic ointment

●   Antiseptic

●   Aspirin

●   Breathing barrier

●   Latex gloves

●   Hydrocortisone ointment

●   Roller bandages

●   Adhesive tape

●   Tweezers

●   Thermometer

●   Emergency blanket

Flashlight

Always keep a great flashlight or even a few flashlights in your car. Be prepared in case you are stuck out after dark!

Don’t rely on your phone to be a flashlight. It could be damaged, lost, or even dead when you need that light assistance.

Reflective Triangles

If you have to pull over and change a tire or perform maintenance on a busy road or a narrow road, having reflective triangles might just save your life.

You can place these out to signal to other drivers to move over or watch out so someone doesn’t accidentally hit you or your car.

Car Multi Tool

You do not have to carry a huge tool bag or tool box in your car to be prepared. A simple multi tool can be stored in your emergency kit or in your glove box.

These multi tools typically have some basic things like a saw, knife, screwdriver, pliers, and more to help handle whatever you might need.

Winter Preparation

Cold weather is often the thing people are least prepared for. You need to be prepared for the weather and for possibly being stranded in the weather as well.

Here are your winter preparation recommendations.

Windshield Wiper Fluid

Your windshield could easily get dirty out there in the snow and ice. You need to be able to clean it to keep your visual so be sure you are prepared with windshield wiper fluid and good wiper blades.

Ice Scraper

You should have a good ice scraper in your car in case of winter weather. The scraper can be used to clear your windshield before you get out on the road. Sometimes, you might even have to pull over and scrape again while driving.

Miscellaneous Items

All of these things are essential items. Here are a few more miscellaneous items you should keep in your car as well.

●   Pen and paper

●   Umbrella

●   Spare change/cash

●   Extra clothing

●   Blankets

●   Bottled water
